Help me set up the RecodeQR MCP tool so I can generate QR codes in this chat. The server URL is https://recodeqr.com/mcp and it needs no authentication.

What you get

  • Free, no account, no watermark. Most "free" generators stop working after a trial. Our static QR codes don't expire.
  • Styled. Colours, dot and corner shapes, a frame with your text, and your logo. PNG for the chat, SVG for print.
  • Static. The content is in the image itself, so the QR code works forever without relying on our service. However, it also means you cannot change its content later and scans are not counted.

Need to edit the destination after printing, or see scan statistics? Make a dynamic QR code in your RecodeQR account before you print.

Set up

  • Claude: in claude.ai or the desktop app, go to Settings → Connectors and choose Add → Add custom connector. Name it RecodeQR, paste the URL and save.
  • ChatGPT desktop app: go to Settings → Plugins, open the MCPs tab and choose Add → Add MCP server. Name it, paste the URL and pick no authentication. On the web: Settings → Apps & Connectors, turn on Developer mode and click Create. This needs a paid plan.
  • Gemini: in the web app, go to Settings → Connected Apps and set up a custom connected app. Choose Cloud MCP, paste the URL as the app link and click Next.

There is nothing to sign up for. Pick "no authentication" wherever you are asked.

Try it

  • "Using RecodeQR, generate a QR code for my Instagram page @yourname with the Instagram logo and a Scan Me frame."
  • "QR code for our Wi-Fi: network CafeGuest, password latte2026."
  • "A contact card QR code for Ada Lovelace, +44 20 1234 5678, [email protected], with a Save contact frame."

Name RecodeQR in your first message so the assistant picks the right tool. After that, plain requests work.

The assistant can also encode an email, a phone number, an SMS, a calendar event and more.

Tips

  • Logo. Attach an image to the chat, give an image URL, or name the service. Instagram, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, YouTube, GitHub, TikTok, PayPal and more are built in.
  • Print. Ask for SVG. It stays sharp at any size.
  • Scans well. Keep the content short and the contrast strong.
  • No image in the chat? Some assistants show only text. Ask for the download link, or ask the assistant to save the file. The link works for 7 days. The code itself never expires.

For developers

Any MCP client with Streamable HTTP works. The server has one tool, generate_static_qr_code, with a JSON schema for content, styles and format.

Gemini CLI uses the same block in ~/.gemini/settings.json, with httpUrl instead of url.

For scripts, bulk jobs or saving codes to an account, use the API.

Troubleshooting

  • Use the exact URL https://recodeqr.com/mcp. No www. and no trailing slash.
  • The server is reachable over HTTPS from the internet only. It does not support the older SSE transport.
  • Anonymous use is rate limited per minute. Wait a moment, or use the API with a key.

What RecodeQR stores

Nothing about you. The rendered image is kept for 7 days so the download link works, then deleted. A logo you attach or link to is used for that render and not kept.
